Antimicrobial Resistance in Conflict-Affected Settings: Field Realities, Operational Challenges & Policy Insights

26 March 2026 — Antimicrobial resistance (AMR) is an escalating global threat, projected to contribute to 8.2 million deaths annually by 2050. On 20 November 2025, the AMR Multi-Stakeholder Partnership Platform (MSPP) and MSF hosted a discussion examining the particularly acute impact of AMR in conflict-affected settings.

This issue brief distils the key insights from that discussion, connecting global policy priorities with frontline experiences of addressing AMR in fragile and conflict-affected settings amidst disrupted health systems where access to diagnostics and appropriate antimicrobials is constrained. The brief also provides practical and urgent actions governments, donors, and global health partners must take to strengthen care, prevent the spread of AMR, and protect people living in some of the world's most fragile contexts, with lessons relevant globally.
