MSF Statement on Agenda Item 12.1 – Follow-up to the political declaration of the high-level meeting of the General Assembly on the prevention and control of non-communicable diseases
79th World Health Assembly, May 2026
MSF welcomes the adoption of the UN High-Level Meeting political declaration and stresses the need for concrete and measurable action, including for people living in low- and middle-income countries and humanitarian settings.
Member States must translate the declaration into action by ensuring access to analogue insulin pens and glucose monitoring. MSF urges WHO to include analogue insulin pens and glucose self-monitoring in the forthcoming type 1 diabetes guidelines. MSF is contributing by updating diabetes protocols across its programmes.
MSF also calls Member States to ensure access to oral and long-acting antipsychotics, including by advocating for their listing in national Essential Medicine Lists to support people requiring ongoing mental health treatment.
