Treat AIDS: Stop the Virus! Rally In New York

June 8, the first day of the UN High Level Meeting on HIV and AIDS, saw up to 700 people take to the streets of New York to ask governments to commit to bold policies to fight the HIV/AIDS epidemic. At a time when it has been proven that treatment of HIV can help reduce the risk of transmission, several HIV advocacy groups joined MSF in a protest and rally to Dag Hammarskjold Plaza in front of the United Nations.

Rally speakers, including MSF Access Campaign Executive Director Dr Tido von Schoen-Angerer, urged governments to agree to putting 15 million people on treatment by 2015, increase funding for developing countries and to stop harmful provisions on access to affordable medicines, all in a bid to Treat AIDS: Stop the Virus!
