Charity Achieng is four years old and lives in Mathare, a large slum in Nairobi, Kenya. She is suspected of having TB because her mother already has the disease. To rule out active TB, she needs to cough up some sputum for testing. But Charity, like most young children, can’t cough up the sputum from deep in her chest, producing saliva instead. Here caregivers try to induce sputum from her.
