The Ministries of Health of Belarus, Ghana and Sierra Leone, among others, have sent open letters to Danaher and Cepheid advocating for a price reduction of GeneXpert tests, to improve people’s access to testing for TB, HIV, hepatitis and many other diseases.
“Many people living with HIV and hepatitis live in remote settings and send samples to centralized laboratories for testing and this can delay results considerably. The high price of your cartridges is a barrier to scale up necessary point-of-care testing to reach to these specific populations in our country,” said Dr. Stephen Ayisi Addo, Programme Manager, Ghana National AIDS and STI Control Programme, in their letter to Danaher and Cepheid.
