The Americas TB Coalition, made up of policymakers and activists from 17 countries in Latin America, sent a letter to Danaher and Cepheid asking them to lower the prices of the test cartridges for extensively drug-resistant (XDR) TB, the deadliest form of TB, to $5 each, to ensure fair access to the tests, which were developed using public funding. “The community affected by tuberculosis has the right to enjoy the benefits of scientific progress and its application since new technologies improve the prevention, diagnosis and treatment of tuberculosis,” stressed Alberto Colorado, Executive Director, - Americas TB Coalition.
